One of my highlights of 2011 has been following Dowser. If you don’t know who they are, you should. They are the best source I’ve found of what they call “solution journalism”—the news on “who is solving what, and how.” Rather than framing stories in terms of ever-increasing and intensifying global problems, Dowser covers the solutions being developed by the world’s foremost social entrepreneurs.
It’s refreshing how unsentimental Dowser is, and, frankly, how nerdy they can be at times. I’m talking about plain-old-almost-academic-serious-tone about social entrepreneurship in its many forms, and nuanced trends in the broader global phenomenon. For an excellent example, take a look at their year-in review. I’m excited to see new infrastructures in place to fund and measure the work of those who create change.
The thing that excites me most about Dowser is the true sisterhood of Beyond the Bracelet’s concept and mission. While they are the source for “solution journalism,” we are excited to become the source for “solution literature.”
And 2012 will be the year when we establish ourselves as such—so keep those submissions coming! For those who have already submitted, cheers! We are enjoying reading your work, and we’ll be in touch very soon.
